Success in the Tullamore Credit Union Schools Garden Competition 2025
St. Ciaran’s National School, Boher, took part in the Tullamore Credit Union Schools Garden Competition. This wonderful initiative is part of the Credit Union’s Community Support Fund, which encourages schools to take part in gardening projects and sustainability efforts.
We are delighted to share that our school has been awarded €1,000 to support and enhance our gardening activities. This generous funding has allowed us to set up a new fruit bushes area, located on the left-hand side of the school beside the Bellair building.
The pupils have also been very busy looking after the vegetables and flowers in our polytunnel. Many thanks to our caretaker Alex, Tony and the Tidy Towns for helping us out with our gardening activities over the past year.
We extend our sincere thanks to Tullamore Credit Union for their support and for recognising the hard work of schools in promoting environmental awareness and outdoor learning.
We have planted raspberry, blueberry, gooseberry, redcurrant, and blackcurrant bushes. In the future, we hope to harvest the fruit and make our own jam as part of a fun and educational activity for the pupils.
